Page Rank OptimizationQ. What is PageRank? A. PageRank is one of the most important parameters in determining where your page is listed in Google (for those pages that are not part of the Google AdWords Select program), as well as many other search engines. It is a ranking on a 1-10 scale, where 1 is worst and 10 is best, that is determined based on: - How many sites link to you
- What these sites are about (whether or not they are relevant)
- How they link to you (the best links are text links that include your targeted keywords).
So, if your site is advertising Alaska fishing, but no sites that are about Alaska or fishing link to you, you will probably not have a very good listing in Google. Q. How do I know how good my PageRank is? A. You can add the Google Toolbar to your browser if you have MS Internet Explorer. To get the Toolbar, go to http://toolbar.google.com. This will give you an indication of the PageRank of each page you visit, including your own. We can also run special reports for you that tell you how many sites link to you and what those sites are about. Q. How do I improve my PageRank? A. Here is the procedure we recommend: - Go to search engines like Google, Yahoo!, AltaVista, and MSN, and search on keywords that are relevant to your site.
- Look at the top 10-20 listings for each of these keywords and determine if any of these sites are related to your site in some way but not in direct competition with you.
- E-mail the webmasters of those sites and request a link exchange – you add their link to your site if they add your link to their site. Be sure to request specific link text that includes the keyword(s) you want to improve rankings for.
You can do it yourself, but this can be a complicated and time-consuming process that requires patience and some knowledge of good keyword selection to be effective. Q. Who should purchase this package from @MOTION? A. This package is only available to those of our clients who have their own domain name for their web site with us. We especially recommend it for clients who already have some good listings but would like to further improve their rankings in Google, or for people who have brand new sites with no links to their site yet. Q. What is included in this package? A. This package includes: - Targeted keyword selection, and choosing 5-10 of the very best keywords to focus on
- Initial search engine position report (this tells you where your site is listed before search engine positioning is done to provide a basis for comparison)
- OptiLink report (tells you what sites link to you and how they link to you)
- Link improvement (requesting changes to existing link text in order to enhance relevance)
- Additional targeted link requests (following the procedure outlined in the question above about improving PageRank.)
- Adding links to your site to facilitate link exchanges
- Search engine submissions
- Follow-up search engine position and OptiLink reports for the next 2 months to monitor results.
Q. How many targeted links will result from doing this program? A. Getting people to respond to emails can be tricky. We will request as many appropriate links as is possible within the scope of this package (probably around 20 to 30, with a minimum of 15 links requested even if good links are difficult to find). We hope to find at least 10 additional targeted links for you, but cannot guarantee this. However, if you already have existing links to your site, we can almost certainly improve their relevance to your targeted keywords. Q. What is the cost of this program? A. $200. Q. How often should this package be purchased? A. We recommend that it be purchased twice a year, once in the fall and once at the beginning of the booking season, if possible. This will maximize your results; however, if only once per year fits your budget, it will still be quite helpful. As the number of links build up over time, your page rank and search engine placement will continue to improve. We have worked to build links to promote the AlaskaOne.com web portal continually for the past 4 years. The result is that Altavista.com currently reports over 2,300 links to www.AlaskaOne.com which we feel has contributed to our obtaining a number 2 listing at Google for "Alaska Travel" this year. Q. Does this program guarantee results? A. No. It does guarantee that a minimum of 15 new, targeted links will be requested, and that existing relevant sites that link to you will be contacted in order to request better keyword targeting if necessary. Since the acceptance of these links is dependent on other web site owners, we cannot guarantee that the offers to cross-link will be accepted.
